Neil is the co-Chair of McMillan's Competition and International Trade Groups and a partner in the Energy Group. Neil's competition law practice focuses on merger clearances under the Competition Act and the reviews under the Investment Canada Act; representation in cartel/follow-on, abuse of dominance and other proceedings; and advising on distribution, grey marketing and joint venture issues. His experience includes over 300 merger clearances under the Competition Act and/or the Investment Canada Act, including the Ultramar/Coastal and American Iron and Metal/SNF cases before the Competition Tribunal, as well as the Novartis/Alcon, Coca-Cola/CCE and Quebecor/Transcontinental consent agreements; over 25 domestic or international cartel cases and related class actions including, vitamins, air cargo, optical disc drives (certification decision currently on appeal to SCC), chocolate confectionery and auto parts; and major unilateral conduct investigations and proceedings, including UCDA v. IBC, and Paradise Pharmacy v. Novartis. Neil completed a doctorate in competition law at the University of Toronto in 1993 and holds an MBA from the Schulich School of Business at York University. He received the Global Competition Review’s “Dealmaker of the Year” Award in 2016.
