Cochrane Saxberg Johnston Johnson and Scarcello LLP announced that Murray Sinclair has joined the firm as general counsel in its office in Winnipeg, Manitoba, effective Aug. 3.

Sinclair has been involved with the Manitoba justice system for more than four decades. He was the first Indigenous judge appointed in Manitoba and the second to be appointed in Canada. He has served as associate chief judge of Manitoba’s Provincial Court and as justice of the Court of Queen’s Bench, then retired from the Bench in January 2016. He joined the Senate in April 2016, then retired from the Senate to return to the practice of law, effective Jan. 31, 2021. Sinclair has also served as a lawyer acting for Indigenous clients.
