In 2002, Research In Motion (RIM) acquired three U.S. based companies for total consideration of approximately US$20 million cash. RIM purchased the assets of Slangsoft, Inc. on June 24, 2002, to help facilitate foreign language input and display on handheld products. RIM was represented by and in-house team led by Karima Bawa, Naseem Rana and David Castell and by McCarthy Tétrault LLP with a team that included Cheryl Slusarchuk, Ted Koffman and Cappone D’Angelo. RIM acquired Arizan Corporation on July 2, 2002, to provide RIM with technologies and personnel to help drive attachment handling applications for Blackberry Wireless Handhelds™. RIM was represented by an in-house team led by Karima Bawa, Naseem Rana and David Castell and by McCarthy Tétrault LLP with a team that included Cheryl Slusarchuk, ted Koffman and Cappone D’Angelo. RIM acquired TeamOn Systems, Inc. on August 7, 2002, to provide RIM with additional expertise in developing solutions that enable individuals to access major email systems (including POP3, IMAP4, proprietary and corporate systems) using various wireless devices.
