$259 Million SMTC IPO

On July 27, 2000, SMTC Corporation and its subsidiary, SMTC Manufacturing Corporation of Canada (SMTC Canada), completed a combined initial public offering in Canada and the United States of $259 Million. The offering was structured as an offering of common shares of SMTC Corporation in the United States and an offering of exchangeable shares of SMTC Canada in Canada. The exchangeable share component of this transaction represented the first initial public offering of exchangeable shares by way of prospectus. The lead underwriters for the offering were Lehman Brothers, RBC Dominion Securities Corporation, FleetBoston Robertson Stephens Inc., Merrill Lynch, and Pierce, Fenner & Smith Inc.
