Bank of Montreal Sells 34 Rural Branches

The Bank of Montreal announced on February 16, 2000 that it has arranged for the sale of 17 rural branches in the Province of Alberta to Credit Union Central of Alberta and 17 rural branches in the Province of Saskatchewan to Credit Union Central of Saskatchewan.

Bank of Montreal was represented by Fraser Milner with a team made up of Mike Kaplan (Corporate/ Commercial), Russel Kowalyk (Financial Services), Dennis Wiebe (Financial Services) and Susan Paul (Competition) of Fraser Milner’s Toronto office, and Laura Safran (Corporate/Commercial) and Robert McKinnon (Commercial Real Estate) of its Calgary office. Erin Kleisinger and Michael Milani of McDougall Ready acted for Bank of Montreal on Saskatchewan-related issues. Keith Perrett of Bank of Montreal’s legal department co-ordinated all legal matters on both transactions on behalf of the Bank. Credit Union Central of Alberta was represented by David Field of McCarthy Tétrault’s Calgary office and by Oliver Borgers and Michael Weizman of its Toronto office. Joseph Dierker and Neal Caldwell of Gauley & Co represented the Credit Union Central of Saskatchewan.
