McCarthy Tétrault acted for National Bank Financial Corp. and other underwriters in connection with the public offering of common shares by Canadian Satellite Communications Inc. (“Cancom”) that raised $122.6 million. The transaction was completed on December 21, 1999. This was the first public offering by Cancom in several years and the first since Cancom completed the acquisition of 100 per cent ownership of Star Choice Communications Inc. on August 31, 1999. Star Choice is one of the two DTH satellite service providers in Canada. This offering also marked the first new underwriting by National Bank Financial Corp. since its formation as a result of the 1999 merger of Levesque Beaubien Geoffrion and First Marathon Securities.
