On June 30, 2001, the City of Edmonton completed the purchase of the Edmonton Composting Facility from TransAlta Energy Marketing (U.S.), Inc. for an aggregate price of approximately $97 million. The Edmonton Composting Facility is the largest composting facility in North America and went into commercial operation in November 2000.
