JX Nippon Oil & Energy Acquires Stake in Xstrata Coal Canada's Metallurical Coal Business

JX Nippon Oil & Energy (Australia) Pty Ltd (“JX Australia”), a subsidiary of JX Nippon Oil and Energy Corporation and its listed parent JX Holdings Inc., paid US$435,000,000.00 in cash to acquire a 25 per cent interest in Xstrata Coal Canada Limited's metallurgical coal business with assets located in the northeastern British Columbia coal region.

Xstrata Coal Canada Limited was represented in Canada by Bennett Jones LLP with a team with a team comprising Ken Klassen, Jason MacIntosh, Russel Drew and Rami Chalabi in Toronto, and Marianne (Chuck) Davies and Duncan McPherson in Calgary; and by King & Wood Mallesons in Australia, with a team comprising Nicholas Pappas and Kate Lindner.
