Laidlaw Inc. agreed to sell, to a group of investors led by Ken Fowler Enterprises Ltd., which includes the senior management group of Manchu Wok, substantially all of the Manchu Wok restaurants located in Canada and the United States. Manchu Wok is the second largest Chinese fast food chain in North America. Most of the restaurants were transferred by way of lease assignments pursuant to an asset purchase agreement. Assistance in this regard was provided by John Marino of Snowcap Investments Inc. who was involved in most of the negotiations with close to 200 landlords. Laidlaw Inc. was represented by in-house counsel Susannah Riggs and GPV lawyers Neil Sheehy, Ann Elise Alexander and Ira Barkin of the Toronto office. Ken Fowler Enterprises Ltd. and the group of investors were represented by Allan Beach and Steven Follett of Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP. The sale closed Sept. 28, 2000.
