Manitoba Hydro Acquisition

July 30 The Manitoba Hydro Electric Board completed its acquisition of Centra Gas Manitoba from West Coast Energy. The transaction is valued at approximately $245 million. Representing Manitoba Hydro was the Toronto office of Blake, Cassels & Graydon and Winnipeg’s Fillmore Riley. The principal Blakes lawyers involved were J. Rob Collins, Alan Brown and Joel Shafer. The principal Fillmore Riley lawyers involved were James A. Carlson and Jody Langhan. West Coast Energy was represented by Aikins, MacAulay & Thorvaldson with the principal lawyers being James A. Ferguson (corporate), James E. Foran, Q.C., (regulatory), and Joel A. Weinstein, Q.C., and Carmele N. Peter on tax aspects.
