Fasken Martineau (now Fasken Martineau DuMoulin) acted as Canadian counsel to Westinghouse Air Brake Company, North America’s largest manufacturer of engineered equipment for locomotives, freight cars and passenger transit vehicles, in connection with its U.S. $1.1 billion merger with MotivePower Industries, Inc. Peter Ascherl (corporate and securities issues) and Angela Di Padova (Competition Act and Investment Canada issues) made up the Faskens team. Pat Brennan and Y. Beth Riley of Bennett Jones acted as Canadian counsel to MotivePower Industries, Inc. The merger was effective as of November 19, 1999.
