On February 14, 2002, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) awarded Multivan Broadcast Corporation a coveted over-the-air multilingual ethnic television licence to serve Vancouver. The Multivan budget is expected to be approximately $200 million over the initial licence term.
Multivan is owned by five prominent Vancouver entrepreneurs: James Ho, owner of Mainstream Broadcasting Corp.; Doug Holtby, president of Arbutus Road Investments Inc. and former president of Western International Communications Ltd. (WIC); Geoffrey Lau, president of Golden Properties Ltd. and founder of Golden Capital Securities Ltd.; Robert Lee, chair of Prospero International Realty Inc. and RG Properties Ltd.; and Joseph Segal, president of Kingswood Capital.
