On June 8, 2021, Pembina Pipeline Corporation acquired a 50 per cent ownership interest in the Cedar LNG Project and entered into a partnership with the Haisla Nation to develop the proposed Cedar LNG Project, a $3 billion floating liquified natural gas ("LNG") facility. The project adds strategic export capacity that accesses Canada’s abundant natural gas supply and enhances B.C.’s growing LNG infrastructure to produce low-carbon, low-cost Canadian LNG for overseas markets. The project involves a new marine terminal and LNG process plant, and marine transport of LNG to Asia. The Cedar LNG Project, which will be located within the traditional territory of the Haisla Nation near Kitimat, B.C., will be the largest First Nation-owned infrastructure project in Canada and will have one of the cleanest environmental profiles in the world. The project will create jobs, contracting and other economic opportunities for the Haisla people, the local communities and other Indigenous nations in the region.
