Pfizer Inc. acquired the worldwide pharmaceutical, animal health and human products business from Pharmacia Corporation for approximately US$57 billion. The deal closed on April 17, 2003. In Canada, the merger involved obtaining the approval of the Competition Bureau and arranging for the divestiture of three pipeline products of the companies.
