In October 2004, Richtree Inc. and Richtree Markets Inc. (formerly the Canadian Master Franchisee of the Mövenpick trademarks) filed for protection under the CCAA. The proceedings were converted to proposal proceedings under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act and Richtree's assets were sold to Richtree Market Restaurants Inc.
Restructuring proceedings were successfully completed on January 23, 2006, and the Richtree restaurants continue to carry on business. The restructuring preserved in excess of 600 jobs.

Michael Weinczok and Jennifer Stam of Ogilvy Renault LLP represented Catalyst Capital Group Inc., senior lender and DIP financier and purchaser of the assets of Richtree and Richtree Markets.
Neil Rabinovitch, Aubrey Kauffman and Stuart Brotman of Goodman and Carr LLP represented the directors of Richtree and Richtree Markets. Tony DeMarinis, Scott Bomhof and Marc Lavigne of Torys LLP represented PricewaterhouseCoopers, the CCAA monitor and interim receiver.
