On July 7, 2000, Saar-Gummiwerk GmbH, a sub-group of RAG AG, acquired Magog, Quebec-based Thona Inc. and Thona Corp. Thona is active in the design, development, manufacturing, sale and distribution of seals and molded parts for the automotive industry as well as in the encapsulation of glass for the automotive industry. The acquisition of Thona is the first North American acquisition for Saar-Gummiwerk GmbH.
Saar-Gummiwerk GmbH was represented by Stikeman Elliott with a team led by John W. Leopold with assistance from Guy Masson, Serge Tousignant, Michel Généreux, Derek Chiasson and Philippe DeMontigny. The shareholders of Thona were represented by Heenan Blaikie, led by François Raymond.
