As part of the post-apartheid transition process in South Africa, the Greater Johannesburg municipal government is engaged in significant restructuring. Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP has been retained as the international law firm to provide advice to the Johannesburg municipal council in retaining a private sector company to operate and maintain the municipality’s water and sewer system. Blakes will assist an international management consultant, a local engineering firm and a local law firm in the completion of the project. Blakes will be the lead firm in the drafting of the management contract and all associated public procurement documents. This is considered to be one of the largest water and sewer management contracts in the world. Blakes will also assist in the restructuring of a water and sewer utility as part of the overall municipal restructuring process. The Blakes team is comprised of Judy Wilson and Graham McLeod.
