The Kissner Group Acquires The Detroit Salt Company

On October 7, 2010, a wholly owned subsidiary of Kissner Milling Company Limited (“Kissner”) of Cambridge, Ontario, completed the acquisition of The Detroit Salt Company, L.C. (“Detroit Salt”), the owner and operator of a large rock salt mine located under the City of Detroit, Michigan. Financial terms were undisclosed.

The Detroit Salt Mine is located approximately 1,200 feet underground, and has been in operation for nearly 100 years. The mine covers over 1,500 acres and currently contains over 100 miles of roads.

Kissner is a major ice-melt manufacturer and chemical distributor, supplying a wide range of high-quality de-icing products and over 300 food and industrial chemicals.
