Torquest Partners Value Fund, L.P. closed its initial round of funding, raising $135 million from Canadian institutional investors, on February 7, 2002. The fund is a newly formed venture capital fund that will focus on making private equity investments in North America.
Torquest Partners Inc., the general partner of the fund, is managed by Brent Belzberg (the former CEO of Harrowston Inc. prior to the recent sale of that company to TD Capital partners), Eric Berke (partner) and Darcy Thompson and George Rossolatos (principal). Rod Barrett, Brian Pukier, Kathleen Ward and Mark Katz of Stikeman Elliott assisted in structuring the fund and closing the financing on behalf of Torquest. Bill Ainley of Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg LLP and Lawrence Chernin of Goodman and Carr LLP acted on behalf of certain fund investors.
