Wintershall Sale

On December 1, 1999, Wintershall Aktiengesellschaft (Wintershall), a subsidiary of BASF, closed the sale of its Canadian subsidiary, Wintershall Canada Ltd., to Startech Energy Inc. for approximately $80 million. Wintershall Canada Ltd. had been active in the Western Canadian sedimentary basin for over thirty years. Wintershall were represented by the Burnet, Duckworth & Palmer team of James S. Palmer, Q.C., Harry S. Campbell, Q.C., John H. Cuthbertson, Richard B. Smith and Patricia Steele. Gowling, Strathy & Henderson acted for Startech Energy Inc. and were represented by James M. Pasieka, Douglas T. McCartney and Edith M. Gillespie.
