On October 1, 2008, a wholly owned subsidiary of Yara International ASA completed its acquisition of Saskferco Products ULC for $1.6 billion in enterprise value from The Mosaic Company, Investment Saskatchewan Inc. and Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce. Saskferco is a leading producer of nitrogen fertilizer, which operates a world-class nitrogen manufacturing plant in Belle Plaine, Saskatchewan. Following the completion of the transaction, the target became known as Yara Belle Plaine Inc.
