Davit Akman is the Chair of the Cassels Competition & Foreign Investment Group. He advises on all aspects of Canadian competition/antitrust and foreign investment review law, including mergers, cartel defence, and civil matters. Davit has cleared major multi-jurisdictional and domestic mergers in a wide array of industry sectors. He has also acted as counsel for private parties and the Commissioner of Competition in numerous proceedings before the Canadian Competition Tribunal and in class actions and other complex, civil, and criminal competition litigation matters at all levels of court in Canada, including the Supreme Court of Canada. Davit is the Chair of the Antitrust Law Committee of the ABA Business Law Section. He clerked at the Supreme Court of Canada for Justice Louise Arbour. On August 31, 2018, the Government of Canada indirectly acquired the Trans Mountain Pipeline system and the Trans Mountain Expansion Project (TMEP), through Trans Mountain Corp. (a subsidiary of the Canada Development Investment Corp. (CDEV)) from a subsidiary of Kinder Morgan Canada Ltd. (KML) for cash consideration of $4.5 billion.
On December 15, 2017, Dometic AB, a Sweden-based maker and seller of products for mobile living, such as vehicle parts, food and hygiene items, announced its acquisition of SeaStar Solutions, a leading provider of vessel control and fuel systems and aftermarket products to the leisure marine industry, from an affiliate of New York-based private equity company American Securities LLC.
On April 3, 2017, Stone Canyon Industries, LLC (SCI) announced the successful closing of its previously announced purchase agreement to acquire Mauser Group N.V. (Mauser), a global supplier of rigid packaging products and services for industrial use, from Clayton, Dubilier & Rice (CD&R), through its subsidiary BWAY Corp. (BWAY), a leading North American manufacturer of rigid metal and plastic containers.
