James is a senior partner in the BLG Construction Group. He is recognized as one of the leading surety bonding practitioners in Canada. The majority of his practice is spent on advising sureties on complex insolvency, litigation, workouts, and risk mitigation matters. He has been retained as lead surety counsel in the largest construction defaults across Canada. James has appeared on surety law matters in the Supreme Court of Canada and Courts of Appeal in Ontario, Manitoba, and Alberta, and in the Supreme Courts of Nova Scotia, Saskatchewan, and Newfoundland. James has been selected by peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in Canada and is a frequent speaker at legal conferences and seminars on topics related to surety and construction law. Leading infrastructure and construction materials enterprise Armtec Infrastructure Inc. and its affiliates (Armtec) completed a going-concern sale of substantially all of its assets to Armtec LP, an affiliate of Brookfield Capital Partners Fund III L.P. (Brookfield), in exchange for a release from approximately $200 million in secured debt obligations owing to Brookfield. The transaction was completed pursuant to an asset sale under the <I>Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act</I> (CCAA).
