Brian E. Cohen

Brian Cohen is a partner in Gowling WLG’s Toronto office. Co-leader of the firm’s national private client services group and a lawyer in the firm’s global private client services group, he assists clients in the areas of estate planning, trusts, and personal taxation, in particular advising high-net worth individuals on succession planning alternatives. He also advises donors and charitable entities regarding the tax implications of formation, registration, governance, and planned giving strategies. In addition, he frequently advises on estate litigation matters. A frequent speaker, he has presented and prepared papers for the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), the Ontario Bar Association, the Law Society of Ontario, ILCO, Federated Press, the Canadian Tax Foundation, and many others. He has been active in the executive of STEP at both the Toronto and national levels, receiving the Founder's Award in 2021. He has been recognized in Chambers High Net Worth Guide, The Canadian Legal Lexpert® Directory, and The Best Lawyers™ in Canada and has been named an “Acritas Star.”
