James Longwell is a senior lawyer and patent and trademark agent in Gowling WLG’s Toronto office. Jim practises in all areas of IP law, particularly as it applies to computer and information technologies. He advises start-ups, small businesses, universities, and large corporations on IP strategy, including acquisition, protection, exploitation, and enforcement issues. He is heavily involved in Canadian and foreign patent, trademark, and industrial design procurement. Jim’s has a wealth of experience preparing and prosecuting patent applications relating to computer software and hardware in various fields and technologies including, AI, blockchain, fintech, imaging and image processing, medical devices, telecommunications, and consumer products.
