Lyndsay Wasser (CIPP/C) leads McMillan’s data management group nationally. She provides strategic support to clients on a wide range of privacy matters, including advising on data security, employee privacy, handling sensitive information (e.g., health, biometrics, and demographic data), web scraping, surveillance, and transferring personal information across borders. She helps organizations conduct PIAs and develop privacy compliance programs, including privacy policies, procedures, and consent strategies. She drafts and negotiates privacy and data protection terms in a variety of contracts. She advises clients on data breach prevention and response, including risk assessments and reporting strategies. She regularly writes and speaks about privacy, including co-authoring Privacy in the Workplace, 4th ed., and Canadian chapters in the International Comparative Legal Guides on Cybersecurity (2020–21) and Data Protection (2021–22). She’s been recognized by Best Lawyers in Canada in Privacy and Data Security Law (2022–24), as a Mondaq Thought Leader for Data Protection, Canada (2021), and by Thomson Reuters Stand-Out Lawyers (2021–23). She is chairwoman of the PrivacyRules data breach committee, and co-director of Osgoode’s certificate in privacy and cybersecurity law.
On October 28, 2015, Match.com Canada Ltd., a subsidiary of The Match Group, completed its previously-announced acquisition of Canadian online dating service Plentyoffish Media Inc. (POF) for US$575 million in cash. The Match Group, which already owns Match.com, OkCupid and Tinder and has filed its IPO on the NASDAQ, now adds POF, the largest free online dating site in the world, to its portfolio. Match is a wholly-owned subsidiary of US media and internet giant IAC/InterActiveCorp.
