Joel Rochon is managing partner at Rochon Genova LLP and heads the firm’s Class Action practice with emphasis on securities, product liability, transportation law and consumer goods litigation. Joel’s achievements of note include acting as lead counsel in the CIBC securities misrepresentation class action. He has acted as lead or co-lead counsel in a number of significant securities class actions including cases against: SNC Lavalin, Valeant, Barrick Gold and Aphria. Joel represented the plaintiffs in the successful trial and appeal of a group action against the Ontario Government and two psychiatrists in respect of coercive medical experimentation at the Mental Health Centre in Penetanguishene. Joel acts as co-lead counsel in two precedent-setting class actions against the provincial governments, hospitals, and long-term care facilities in respect of COVID-19 crisis. Joel acted as class counsel in the precedent-setting class action trials in respect of market timing in mutual funds, and the Lac-Mégantic train disaster. Joel was admitted to the Ontario Bar in 1988.
