Sidney Troister is a partner in the commercial real estate group. He is regarded as a real estate problem solver, troubleshooter, litigation strategist, and noted expert on s. 50 (subdivision control under the Planning Act). He provides a practical mid-sized firm approach to his broad business law practice with a special focus on purchase, sale, and financing of commercial real estate, Planning Act problems, mortgage fraud, real property arbitration and mediation, and title insurance defence. He provides services to lawyers as counsel, strategist, and creative problem-solver on difficult real estate issues. He provides opinions and strategy regarding real estate lawyers’ negligence claims and the standard of practice of real estate lawyers. He has been past co-head of the Ontario Bar Admission Course's real estate section; author of The Law of Subdivision Control in Ontario; and lecturer to the bar. He received the OBA Award for Excellence in Real Estate in 2000 and the Law Society Medal in 2008. He was named The Best Lawyers in Canada’sToronto Real Estate Lawyer of the Year in 2015 and 2021.
