Brian Y. Lee

Brian Lee is a partner based in Gowling WLG’s Vancouver. Past head of both the Vancouver office’s Intellectual Property Group and its Technology Industry Group, Brian practises intellectual property law with an emphasis on patent matters. His practice focuses on patenting mechanical and materials engineering, electrochemistry and computer-implemented and software technologies. He has extensive experience in obtaining patent and industrial design protection, conducting intellectual property due diligence and technology audits, managing patent disputes – including assessing patent infringement and validity risks, supporting patent litigation and assisting organizations manage their patent portfolios. Brian is very involved in patenting clean energy technologies, particularly hydrogen and fuel cell technologies and was previously in-house counsel at a local fuel cell company and a director of the Canadian Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association. He is also a Registered Patent Agent in Canada and the US. Brian has been recognized in The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory, Who’s Who Legal: Patent Agents, and IAM Patent 1000. He received the 2022 Best Lawyers Technology Law "Lawyer of the Year" award in Vancouver.
