Carla Hannemann is the head of the tax law practice for Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) in Canada. With more than 20 years of experience managing and advising businesses, Carla has led a significant number of large-scale global transactions, skillfully managing timelines, costs, and tax risks, while ensuring practical, cost-efficient solutions are implemented. Carla is a trusted advisor to many Canadian pensions, public sector investors, investment boards, asset managers, and funds. She has also supported some of Canada’s largest real estate and infrastructure funds with their investments and fund structuring. Her practice encompasses all aspects of tax that arise in corporate and commercial transactions. She provides end-to-end tax support to her clients on transactions (including due diligence, modelling, structuring, and reviewing, drafting, and negotiating agreements) as well as providing pre- and post-closing and ongoing advisory support. Prior to launching A&M’s Canadian tax law practice, Carla led the M&A Tax and Pensions and Tax Exempts practice at another Canadian firm. Carla is a frequent author and speaker on various Canadian tax matters and is regularly ranked for her work in tax law by Chambers Canada, The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory, and the International Tax Review.
