Carole Chouinard is a bilingual partner in Gowling WLG's Ottawa office whose practice involves transactional work, as well as tax planning for corporations and individuals. She advises clients on the tax aspects of transactions, including share and asset sales of corporations, the structuring, formation and reorganization of corporations, trusts, partnerships and tax-exempt entities, and estate planning. Her clients include both domestic and foreign corporations, individuals in and out of Canada, as well as tax-exempt entities. She has experience in structuring business ventures and transactions for both taxable and tax-exempt entities. Carole, co-leader of the firm's Charities and Not-for-Profit Organizations Group, also advises tax-exempt organizations, as well as donors, on matters pertaining to tax and corporate law. She taught tax law at the University of Ottawa and worked for several years as a Rulings Officer with the CRA’s Income Tax Rulings and Interpretations Directorate. Carole has been recognized in Chambers Canada, The Canadian Legal Lexpert®Directory,and the International Tax Review: Women in Tax Leaders. Carole received the Best Lawyers® 2022 Trusts and Estates "Lawyer of the Year" award in Ottawa and was similarly recognized in the field of Tax Law in 2023.
