Partner and head of Competition and Foreign Investment Group at Goodmans. Provides strategic advice on all aspects of Canadian competition law, particularly with respect to complex mergers (including in regulated industries and mergers involving multi-jurisdictional review). Also advises on behavioral matters under Canadian competition law and mergers subject to the Investment Canada Act. Has practised with a leading international law firm in Brussels and developed particular expertise translating the international competition law developments into strategic advantages for clients in Canada. Notable mergers where David led the effort to secure competition law and other regulatory approvals for purchasers include Rogers/Shaw, WestJet/Sunwing and Newmont/Goldcorp. David has also recently pioneered new competition litigation suits in Canada. In 2020, was the only Canadian named in Global Competition Review’s 40 under 40 and was honoured as one of Lexpert’s Rising Stars: Leading Lawyers Under 40 in 2019. On December 15th, 2019, Cineplex Inc. signed an arrangement agreement with Cineworld Group, plc, pursuant to which Cineworld Group will acquire Cineplex shares for C$34 per share for a total transaction value of approximately C$2.8 billion.

On April 18, 2019, Newmont Mining Corporation (“Newmont”) completed the acquisition of Goldcorp Inc. (“Goldcorp”) to create the world’s leading gold company.
On May 20, 2015, BCE Inc. (BCE) and Rogers Communications Inc. (Rogers) completed their acquisition of GLENTEL Inc. (GLENTEL), a Canadian-based multi-carrier mobile products distributor.
Element Financial Corporation (TSX: EFN) completed its largest acquisition to date with the $570-million purchase of the assets comprising GE Canada's fleet leasing business. GE Canada's fleet vehicle portfolio consists of 650 regionally diversified customers and integrated fleet management services for vehicle and light and medium truck financings. As part of the acquisition, Element also entered into a strategic alliance agreement with GE Capital Fleet Services in the US pursuant to which the companies will collaborate primarily on the pursuit of Canadian/US cross-border fleet management opportunities.
