David Sowemimo is the Founder and Managing Lawyer at Watchmaker Law. He represents plaintiffs in personal injury cases across Alberta. He has been lead-counsel on serious and catastrophic cases including quadriplegic, paraplegic, amputations, double and triple fatality cases involving multinational insurance companies and Crown defendants. He has vast experience achieving settlements for his clients through Alternative Dispute Resolutions. He appears at Alberta Court of King’s Bench using his experience to advance his clients’ respective claims. David stays actively involved in the community. In 2022, He was appointed by Edmonton City Council to serve as a commissioner on the Edmonton Police Commission (EPC), providing civilian oversight for the police service. He served as Chair of the Professional Standards Committee of the EPC in 2023. As part of his commitment to diversity and inclusion, he launched and funds an entrance scholarship for black law students at the University of Manitoba’s Faculty of law. David has won several awards including Judge Ross A. Award, Emerging Leader Award, Halpern & Lavitt Law Award and the University of Manitoba, Faculty of Arts Dean’s Honours Award (2005–2006). He provides mentorship to law students through the articling process and informally.
