Doug is recognized in international reviews, including The Lexpert/American Lawyer Guide to the Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada, as one of Canada’s Leading Intellectual Property and IP Litigation lawyers. His practice combines extensive litigation experience with expertise product acquisition and licensing, particularly in the pharmaceutical area. Doug served as a director of a number of start-up pharma companies. He advises clients on clearance, protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights; appears before the Federal Court and the Ontario courts. He is past president of FICPI, the International Federation of Intellectual Property Attorneys, and former president of FICPI’s Communications Commission. Doug is a former member of the executive of the CBA(O) Intellectual Property Section; past president of FICPI Canada; member of the IPIC, AIPLA, AIPPI and FICPI. He has lectured on IP issues at McGill, McMaster and University of Toronto, and spoken at national and international meetings on current IP issues. Doug is a graduate of U of Waterloo (Engineering) and U of Toronto (Law). He was called to the Ontario Bar in 1976 and is a Registered Patent and Trademark Agent.
