Head of the Energy Litigation Practice Group, Bruce Mellett's commercial litigation practice includes experience in energy-related disputes, insurance issues, professional liability, and construction matters. Among the areas where Bruce has provided advice are complex contract interpretation issues, disputes involving royalty issues, ROFR clauses, and product liability issues. He has extensive experience involving appeal and judicial review cases in the Alberta and Federal Courts, including matters involving constitutional division of powers questions and Indigenous consultation issues. Bruce has also appeared before the Alberta Utilities Commission and the National Energy Board, and on appeals from those tribunals. In addition to litigating disputes in the court system, his experience includes arbitration matters involving large insurance and business interruption claims, construction issues, and gas markets issues. Bruce also provides advice to physicians on medical legal matters including litigation, complaints before the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta, and fee billing disputes. Prior to joining Bennett Jones, Bruce served as a law clerk at the Supreme Court of Canada.
