E. Patrick Shea, KC, LSM, CS is a partner in Gowling WLG’s Toronto office, practising in the area of commercial law with a particular focus on restructuring and insolvency. Certified as a Specialist in Bankruptcy & Insolvency Law by the Law Society of Ontario (LSO), Patrick has acted for a number of large and mid-sized corporations in the entertainment, retail, automotive, airline, food and beverage, pharmaceutical and other industrial sectors. He has also acted on a number of cross-border insolvency proceedings involving the recognition in Canada of insolvency proceedings. Patrick has advised governments in the Caribbean on the reform of their insolvency legislation. He is a past chair of the Ontario Bar Association's Bankruptcy and Insolvency Section, the Canadian Bar Association's Insolvency Section, the Inter-Pacific Bar Association's Insolvency Committee and the American Bankruptcy Institute’s International Committee. He recently finished an appointment as chair of Ontario’s Business Law Modernization and Burden Reduction Council. In 2015, Patrick was awarded the Law Society Medal, the LSO’s highest award. He has also been awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers and two Minister of Veteran’s Affairs Commendations.
