François Baril is a bilingual partner in Gowling WLG's Ottawa office. His practice focuses on litigation with an emphasis on health law, including acting as counsel to the Canadian Medical Protective Association, the Medical Council of Canada, and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons. He regularly advises on issues of professional liability and discipline and regulatory issues. He also advises both foreign and Canadian clients on all aspects of competition law. He has appeared before the Supreme Court of Canada, the Federal Court of Appeal, the Tax Court of Canada, all levels of Ontario Courts, and the Yukon and the Northwest Territories Courts of Appeal. He has also appeared before federal and provincial administrative tribunals, coroner’s inquests, and military boards of inquiry.He is a part-time professor at the University of Ottawa where he teaches competition law. He is a past president of the AJEFO. He has been recognized in Chambers Canada, The Canadian Legal Lexpert® Directory, and Benchmark Canada. He received the Best Lawyers® 2022 Medical Negligence “Lawyer of the Year” award in Ottawa. In 2003, he was awarded the Ontario Law Society Medal for outstanding service within the profession.
