François Viau is a partner in Gowling WLG's Montreal office, practising in bankruptcy and insolvency, real estate law, banking and commercial litigation. François is particularly well-known as a trusted advisor to major retail landlords in insolvency files. François is the leader of the Montreal Restructuring, Bankruptcy & Insolvency Practice Group and the national leader of Gowling WLG’s Insolvency sub-group in Commercial Litigation. He is also a member of the Liaison Committee for the Commercial Division of the Quebec Superior Court and is an ambassador of the Fondation du Barreau du Québec. François also regularly represents financial institutions and private lenders with respect to restructuring matters, enforcement of security, as well as trustees in bankruptcy, creditors and debtors on various insolvency-related issues. In addition, François is a frequent speaker and author in banking, insolvency and real estate law.
