Garnet is a member of the firm’s taxation, estate planning and administration groups. He focuses on developing tax-efficient business structures, Canadian and international tax planning, and corporate reorganizations. Garnet’s practice includes corporate tax planning, business succession planning, and estate planning and administration. His clients range from small to mid-size owner-managed businesses to private and public multinational enterprises across various industry sectors. Garnet was appointed King’s Counsel for the Province of Alberta in 2020. He is recognized as a leading practitioner in corporate tax by The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory and in tax law by Best Lawyers in Canada (2012–present). He was called to the Bar of Alberta in 1985 and holds an LLB with distinction (1984) and a BComm with distinction (1981) from Alberta. He also completed the In-Depth Tax Course from the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (1988).
