Guy Poitras is a bilingual partner and leader of the Advocacy Team in Gowling WLG's Montreal office, practising in commercial and civil litigation with a particular emphasis on complex product and professional liability claims. He has extensive experience as a litigator and has acted for various manufacturers with respect to individual and class actions for damages pertaining to misrepresentations and defective products ranging from motor vehicles, pharmaceutical products to electrical and electronic appliances and components. Guy has advised clients with respect to litigation risks and strategies pertaining to product recalls as well as reviewed their various contractual clauses. He has also acted for many professional liability insurers (E&O, D&O, engineers) and life insurers with respect to legal proceedings. He is often called upon to opine on or dispute insurance coverage issues and to analyze clients' insurance portfolios. Guy has also represented companies involved in complex commercial disputes requiring the procurement and execution of seizures before judgment, injunctions and Anton Piller or Mareva-type orders. He has been recognized in The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory, The Best Lawyers in Canada and named in the Thomson Reuters Stand-out Lawyers 2023 list.
