Ian Goldberg practises business law with a focus on mergers, acquisitions, reorganizations, restructurings and joint ventures. He has been a partner at the firm since 2007 and is a co-chair of the firm's Opinions Committee. Ian provides advice on commercial law issues, for both public and private business corporations, limited partnerships and trusts including structuring and organizing start-up operations, directors' and shareholders' meetings, corporate governance and the duties and obligations of directors and trustees. Ian deals with complex multinational and multi-jurisdictional reorganizations and recapitalizations. He has been involved in the corporate and securities law aspects of cross-border restructurings and recapitalizations. Ian has provided corporate and securities law advice to a number of public corporations including those in the pharmaceutical, retail, forestry, technology and energy industries. He is particularly well-versed in dealing with the plan of arrangement provisions of the Business Corporations Act (Ontario) and the Canada Business Corporations Act.
On February 17, 2015, Osisko Gold Royalties Ltd (Osisko) acquired Virginia Mines Inc. (Virginia) for approximately $461 million, pursuant to a plan of arrangement.
