Ian Roland is a senior experience litigator, focused on understanding the interests of clients and finding solutions. He practises in civil litigation, administrative law, professional governance, discipline, and commercial litigation. Ian has employment law expertise acting for executives and administrative law expertise relating to regulation of professionals, particularly health professionals, police governance, and human rights matters. He acts on behalf of professionals in conflict with their regulatory authority and in defence of professional negligence. Ian has acted as counsel at numerous public commissions of inquiry and as counsel at all levels of court, including judicial reviews and appeals to the Divisional Court, Court of Appeal, and SCC. Ian has been a presenter to LSO and other education institutions on a wide range of legal topics, including civil litigation, employment, labour, health, and administrative law. He has been recognized by The Best Lawyers in Canada since 2006, is recognized by Chambers Canada in Employment & Labour: Labour for Unionsand is a Fellow of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers and American College of Trial Lawyers. Ian was also recipient of the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002 and the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012.
