James Buchan is a senior litigation partner focusing on intellectual property disputes. He is actively involved in the enforcement, protection, and management of intellectual property assets. He has extensive experience litigating in the Federal Court and the Federal Court of Appeal and has routinely appeared before the Canadian Trademarks Opposition Board and related proceedings before the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO). He was firm managing partner (clients and markets) for Gowling WLG (Canada) LLP, a past member of the international board of trustees, responsible for all external matters related to the firm's client relationships, as well as the key sectors and regions in which the firm offers its services. He was also a past member of the Canadian firm's board of trustees, as well as a former leader of the firm's intellectual property litigation group and a former co-leader of its trademarks group.
