A bilingual litigation and disputes partner in Gowling WLG's Ottawa office, James Plotkin’s practice focuses on commercial litigation and arbitration, intellectual property litigation, and administrative law. James has argued before the SCC, the Federal Courts, and all levels of court in Ontario. In addition to acting for parties to international and domestic arbitrations, he also acts as arbitrator in commercial and intellectual property matters. James is also involved in domain name dispute resolution, both as counsel and adjudicator. James’ administrative law practice has included acting for businesses, individuals, and government agencies in judicial review proceedings. On the advisory side, James is counsel to the City of Ottawa’s Election Compliance Audit Committee as well as its Property Standards and License Appeals Committee. Published broadly on international and domestic commercial arbitration, copyright, trademarks and domain name disputes, he co-authors a leading commentary on Ontario's arbitration legislation as well as a commentary on BC’s international arbitration legislation.
