James Howie is a partner at Howie, Sacks & Henry LLP. He practises personal injury litigation, insurance claims, and medical malpractice law. He is a Certified Specialist in Civil Litigation by the Law Society of Ontario. Jim has served as a Director of The Advocates' Society, was a member of council of the Medico-Legal Society of Toronto, and is currently a member of the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association (OTLA) and American Association for Justice. He is past president of the Toronto Lawyers Association and former director of the Brain Injury Association of Toronto. He has chaired and lectured for personal injury programmes sponsored by The Advocates’ Society, OTLA, Canadian Defence Lawyers, The Canadian Institute, Lexpert, Insight, and the Canadian Bar Association. He lectured annually on insurance law at Osgoode Hall for five years. Listed in The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory as a leading practitioner in Personal Injury law since 1997, including as Most Frequently Recommended in 2022. Selected to the National Post’s list of best personal injury lawyers in Canada every year since the list's inception and selected to the Best Lawyers directory as a leading practitioner in personal injury since 2006. Jim was named Plaintiff Lawyer of the Year by OTLA for 2018.
