Jeff Cowan is counsel at WeirFoulds LLP and was managing partner from 1999–2003. He is a member of the municipal and planning law, professional self-regulation, commercial leasing, and litigation practice groups at the firm. He appears before tribunals and all courts, including the Supreme Court of Canada, with an emphasis on public and regulatory law, judicial review, Indigenous peoples, property assessment and taxation, land use planning and development, professional discipline, and real estate and boundaries litigation. His clients are private and public companies and individuals, municipal governments, and a variety of tribunals and professional organizations. He acts as counsel in arbitrations and as an arbitrator and mediator. He is a past director of The Advocates’ Society, past chairman of the OBA administrative law section, a member of the Secretariat of Civil Rules Committee since 2006, and an author of Ontario Annual Practice, which contains developments and authoritative commentary on legislation and rules of procedure for Ontario’s civil courts and tribunals. He is a recipient of the SOAR Medal for outstanding service to the Ontario administrative justice system and the Court of Appeal for Ontario medallion for special contributions to the administration of justice.
