Jeffrey Oliver is a partner in the Calgary office of Cassels and leads their local insolvency and restructuring practice. He routinely acts for lenders, court-appointed officials (receivers, monitors, trustees), landlords, purchasers, debtors, secured and unsecured creditors, directors, trustees, receivers, and monitors. He advises clients on corporate reorganizations, bankruptcies, receiverships, foreclosures, lease realizations, and loan workouts, including on cross-border insolvencies and realizations. Jeffrey is experienced in secured and unsecured financings, including interim and takeout financing within insolvency proceedings and securitization within forbearance arrangements. Jeffrey is recognized as a leader in his field in Chambers Canada, The Best Lawyers in Canada, and Benchmark Litigation. Jeffrey was a recipient of the 2018 Lexpert Zenith Award, recognizing his contribution to the insolvency and restructuring community and his leading role in the Redwater Energy matter, which was heard by the Supreme Court of Canada in 2018. He is a member of the Insolvency Institute of Canada (IIC), is a Fellow of INSOL International, and has been called to the Bar in both British Columbia (2002) and Alberta (2011).
Petroamerica Oil Corp. and Suroco Energy Inc. fended off a hostile bid by Vetra Holding S.a.r.l. and Vetra Acquisition Ltd. and completed a plan of arrangement pursuant to which Petroamerica acquired all the issued and outstanding shares of Suroco for an approximate total value of $108.6 million.
