Joanne is a member of the firm's Corporate/Commercial Group and Co-Chair of its Transportation Group. Her practice is focused on Canadian and cross-border mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, restructurings, reorganizations and financings. Joanne has developed extensive experience in representing clients in the transportation industry, earning recognition as one of Canada’s leading practitioners in transportation law. She routinely advises clients engaged in truck, bus and rail operations as well as logistics services providers on transactions, licensing and regulation, cross-border issues and transportation agreements. A significant portion of her practice involves the acquisition and disposition of Canadian subsidiaries by US or foreign parent entities. She also advises private equity funds on buying, selling and restructuring Canadian businesses. Joanne represents banks, syndicated funds and other institutional lenders as well as commercial borrowers, in connection with secured and unsecured financing transactions. Her M&A industry experience extends to clients in technology, construction, manufacturing, transportation and distribution, health care, retail, energy, food services, sports and entertainment and professional services.
On July 26, 2017, it was announced that Canadian private equity firm Champlain Financial Corp. (Champlain) had acquired Riverside Lobster International, Inc. (Riverside), a leading branded seafood processor and wholesale distributor from Nova Scotia, supplying the finest quality lobster and scallops to customers in the United States and Canada, and 20 other countries in Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
