Dr. John Norman is a partner and litigator in Gowling WLG’s Ottawa office and a member of its Intellectual Property Group. John represents a wide range of clients including leading Canadian and international pharmaceutical, biotechnology, biologic, and technology companies. He primarily focuses on pharmaceutical lifecycle management helping clients build robust patent portfolios and develop litigation strategies that can withstand the rigours of litigation by multiple challengers. He advises on pharmaceutical regulation and patent litigation, including patent infringement actions, patent impeachment actions and proceedings under the Patented Medicine (Notice of Compliance) Regulations and before the Patented Medicine Prices Review Board. John also appears before the Federal Court of Canada, the Federal Court of Appeal, and the SCC. He served on the board of directors of BIOTECanada for ten years and is a frequent speaker and writer on pharmaceutical and technology patent litigation matters. John has been recognized in Chambers Global, Chambers Canada, IAM Patent 1000, and Managing Intellectual Property: IP Stars among other publications. He obtained a PhD in biochemistry from the Faculty of Medicine, Dalhousie University.
