A JML founding and managing partner, John focuses on commercial disputes as counsel, arbitrator, or mediator. He has been involved in the resolution of many disputes across Canada, including major projects involving transportation, telecommunications, hydro, oil & gas. A leader of the BC construction bar, as counsel and neutral, John has long been included in The Lexpert®/American Lawyer Guide to the Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada. He is currently Best Lawyers’ “Lawyer of the Year” for construction law in Canada, Doyle's Guide’s leader for construction law in BC, and one of Lexpert®’s three most recommended construction lawyers in BC. John is involved in the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and the Vancouver International Commercial Arbitration Centre. He is also on the Application and Appellate panel. He has chaired many legal conferences on commercial litigation and alternative dispute resolution. Being one of the original authors of the BC's Builder’s Liens Practice Manual, he has taught the builder’s lien course to almost every Professional Legal Training Course class for 25 years. Through his philanthropy, John has raised money for the Lawyer’s Benevolent Society as both a fundraiser and performer in the “Battle of the Bands.”
